Taking Action for Mental Health
Mental Health Awareness Week provides a moment each year to pause and reflect on how mental health is understood and supported at work. The 2026 theme, Action, highlights the importance of moving beyond awareness alone to consider the everyday ways we respond to challenge, pressure and change.
This session has been designed in response to this year’s theme, offering a practical way to explore what action for mental health looks like in day-to-day working life.
Overview
This practical 60-minute workshop explores what meaningful action for mental health looks like in everyday situations at work. Rather than focusing on “thinking positive” or simply coping better, the session supports participants to develop a healthier, more flexible relationship with thoughts, emotions and choice - particularly when work feels pressured or uncertain.
Participants will build clarity around what mental and emotional health actually involve, and where they have influence in the moment. We explore the difference between trying to eliminate difficult thoughts or feelings and learning how to respond to them more effectively.
The session also looks at how thoughts, emotions and underlying beliefs interact, and how these patterns can either support or undermine wellbeing over time. Participants are encouraged to notice common habits - such as avoidance, overthinking or self-criticism - and to consider alternative responses that feel more constructive and sustainable.
We introduce practical ways of working with difficult emotions such as anxiety, anger and guilt, emphasising that these experiences are part of being human rather than problems to eliminate. Throughout, participants engage with simple, evidence-based techniques they can apply immediately in both work and everyday life.
This session can be delivered virtually or in person, and tailored to reflect organisational context and priorities.
