Creating a Safe and Respectful Workplace

Building the knowledge, confidence and processes to recognise risk, respond safely and support people affected by harm.

Overview

Creating a safe and respectful workplace requires more than awareness. Organisations need people who understand their responsibilities, feel confident responding when concerns arise, and know how to follow appropriate processes while supporting those involved with care and sensitivity.

This comprehensive training brings together three interconnected areas: safeguarding adults and children, sexual harassment in the workplace, and domestic abuse, sexual violence and violence against women and girls.

Taking a practical, trauma-informed approach, the training helps participants understand risk, respond safely to disclosures and concerns, navigate escalation and referral pathways, and handle information appropriately. It also considers the wider organisational policies, processes and working practices needed to support prevention and create lasting cultural change.

The training is designed and delivered by practitioners with extensive experience across domestic abuse and sexual violence, safeguarding, crisis response, recovery, behaviour change and strategic whole-system prevention.

Who this programme is for

Designed for managers, HR and People teams, safeguarding leads and others with responsibility for employee wellbeing, organisational culture, policy or responding to sensitive concerns.

Delivery Format

Delivered as a full-day training session, virtually or in person.

Content is tailored to reflect your organisation’s policies, sector requirements, responsibilities and risk profile, with opportunities to explore relevant scenarios and apply learning within your organisational context.

What the training covers:

1. Safeguarding Adults & Children

Build understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and how to recognise and respond appropriately to risk. Explore duty of care, risk assessment, trauma-informed responses, escalation and referral pathways, alongside appropriate recording and information sharing.

2. Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

Understand the spectrum of behaviours that can constitute sexual harassment and the organisational responsibilities involved in prevention and response. Explore how to respond safely to disclosures, challenge problematic behaviours, apply trauma-informed principles and establish clear reporting and escalation processes.

3. Domestic Abuse, Sexual Violence & Violence Against Women and Girls

Develop greater awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence, including prevalence, risk and the barriers that can prevent people from seeking support. Learn how to respond safely to disclosures, understand internal and external support pathways and consider appropriate bystander interventions.

4. Reporting, Recording & Information Sharing

Understand when and how information should be recorded and shared, including the balance between an individual’s right to privacy and safeguarding responsibilities. Explore consent, circumstances in which information may need to be shared without consent, and principles for maintaining accurate and relevant records.

5. Organisational Response & Prevention

Consider how policies, procedures, communication and support pathways work together to create a safer organisational response. Identify opportunities to strengthen existing approaches and support longer-term behavioural and cultural change.
